About the Author – Lisa Cantwell

Lisa Cantwell was born into a Southern rural family. Biscuits and cornbread were daily fare
along with fried chicken and a variety of wonderful cakes and pies. Sweet tea was the
beverage of choice.


Diagnosed as a diabetic at 26, she was cast into a world of unknown and often conflicting
advice. As Lisa’s disease progressed, so did her understanding of diabetes and its core
relation to food and exercise. She took to her kitchen, trusting that good food could bring
about a change in her health. She was right!


Recipes were developed, tested, modified and tested again. Blood sugars were
meticulously tracked. Over time, a core set of recipes was developed that lead to stable
blood sugar control. The recipes are easy, tasty, and appealing to the entire family!
